If your spouse’s parents gifted them a plot of land on which you later, once married, built a house, you may ask the court to recognise the plot as the spouses’ joint property, provided that during the marriage the plot was substantially improved and its value rose significantly precisely because of that improvement, and not because of the natural growth in the value of the real estate.
