On 18 March 2026, the Lithuanian Government approved draft laws prepared by the Ministry of Social Security and Labour transposing the EU Pay Transparency Directive into national law. The changes are expected to take effect from 7 June 2026.
What the New Directive Prohibits
Employers will be prohibited from asking job candidates about their previous salaries. This provision is designed to break the chain of pay discrimination that often carries over from one employer to the next.
Job Advertisement Requirements
Employers will be required to include the initial salary range or a specific salary figure in job advertisements. This will allow job seekers to make more informed decisions before entering negotiations.
Employees’ Right to Information
Employees will gain the right to receive information about the average salary for their category by gender. This can help identify potential gender pay gaps and provide a basis for fair pay negotiations.
What Employers Should Do Now
Companies should already review their job advertising practices, internal salary structures and candidate selection processes to ensure compliance with the new requirements from June onwards.
