How Do New Schemes Work?
According to audiovisual content expert Tomas Sakro, neither image nor sound is a reliable proof of reality anymore. Technologies can generate or translate conversations into any language in real time — meaning that hearing Lithuanian on the phone does not guarantee the speaker actually knows it.
How to Protect Yourself?
- Never transfer money to strangers over the phone.
- If you receive a suspicious call — hang up and contact the institution directly.
- Be sceptical about any urgent requests involving money or personal data.
- Report fraud attempts to the police.
